24" x 24" Oil on canvas. Unframed.

June 2020.

I painted this portrait of George Floyd. In the wake of his killing – and the killings of so many other unarmed Black Americans by the police – painting seemed to be the only way my heart wanted to communicate. Purple for beauty and dignity. Green for power and possibility.

To honor George's memory, I used the painting to fundraise for Campaign Zero, an organization dedicated to ending police brutality. Due to incredible support, we raised $2,1,25 that will go toward Campaign Zero’s work to support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide.

Thank you to each of you who generously donated, spread the word, and supported my painting fundraiser in George Floyd’s honor. 🖤
